Welsh black slate marbleised antique fireplace surround features double corbels and is made black slate. In 1838 Magnus acquired an interest in a slate quarry in North Wales and another on Valentia Island, off the west coast of Ireland, with a view to obtaining slate for billiard tables and fire place surrounds and chimneys.
