Is the Samsung S22 worth it?
Samsung’s latest flagship phone, the S22, has been launched in 3 different models – the S22, S22+ and the S22 ultra. It is an exciting launch with advanced specifications but is the price tag worth it?
The S22 series is the same price as that of the S21 costing £769 for 128GB of memory and £819 for 256GB. Its design is stunning with a flat OLED screen, fluid performance, the best-in-class android OS upgrade policy and reliable camera. It comes in 4 different colours: black, white, gold and green.
The S22 has a 6.1 inch screen which resembles that of the iPhone 13. It offers more megapixels and sensors for taking photos as well as a 3x optical zoom which is more advanced than their predecessors. There is a 120Hz refresh rate which allows for an ultra-smooth refresh of content for user experience.
It boasts an edge-to-edge dynamic AMOLED display with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 Pixels with a 10MP front-facing camera. It has a 1,300-nit peak brightness which is excellent compared to the iPhone 13 which hit 795-nits of brightness – you will not struggle to read the screen in bright sunlight with the S22 and if you do need to increase the brightness then the Vision Booster technology also adjusts the colour contrast simultaneously to allow for excellent screen visibility.
The rear camera has got advances where it boasts a 50Mp wide and 10Mp telephoto lens compared to the previous S21 model which has a 12Mp wide and 64Mp telephoto lens. Although the telephoto lens has a reduced number of megapixels, the new advanced software has a 3x optical zoom. The sensor is 23% bigger than that of the S21, allowing for more light to be let it, boosting its camera performance in low light
Interestingly, the main flaw is with the battery; the S22 has a small 3,700mAh unit compared to the 300mAh unit found in the S21. In addition, there is no charger in the box and so a charger is required to be bought on top of the product.
In general, the S22 is a good phone with the fundamental qualities of an Android flagship. It has an excellent set of cameras, a good processor, and an extraordinary software update policy. The battery life is the primary flaw with a slow charging speed.
